I started writing this about three weeks ago, when the official record of global infections for the novel coronavirus stood at 145,673, with deaths at 5,436. Today, those numbers are 1,469,221 infections and 85,477 deaths. As it spreads across the globe, the world is finally taking it seriously, and the claims that it’s ‘just the flu’, common a month or so ago, are now nowhere to be seen. But as the world starts to pay attention, I have started to see some revisionist history popping up around the internet and amongst people I speak to, as if the first few months of this outbreak never occurred. I’ve been following this for months, and thought it might be worth revisiting and recording what happened and how we got here, for my own record as much as anything.
